New Year’s exhibition at the ArtHouse cafe

The Art House Cafe Gallery welcomes in the New Year with an outstanding exhibition of the work of Devizes artists, Alan and Sarah Padwick, and David Nutt.

Alan Padwick almost decided on a career in art, but elected to join the Royal Navy instead. He continued to paint and draw and studied art part-time, with courses in Oslo, London, Portsmouth and Edinburgh. He still finds painting the human face and form the most interesting, but also enjoys painting and drawing animals and other subjects in various media.

Sarah Padwick also studied with various tutors in Scotland and with the Open College of the Arts. She paints mainly landscapes, including subjects requested by clients. She has completed a number of commissions for “portraits” of clients’ homes. She has also published a series of articles on churches along Britain’s waterways, illustrated by her watercolour paintings. Sarah paints miniatures in watercolour on ivorine, especially portraits of adults and children and in 2016 won an award from the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists.

After art college, David Nutt’s career was in advertising and his interest in painting has been lifelong. His paintings are representational rather than abstract. He says, ”I paint what catches my eye or what moves me emotionally. I constantly look at the work of other artists, as I am fascinated by the many techniques they use to achieve their works. Now gradually moving toward portraiture, I also have a fondness for natural subjects including land and seascapes, still life and river scenes.”

All three exhibitors are happy to take commissions and you can learn more about them by coming into the Art House Cafe, where, as well as a warm welcome and good food and coffee, you can admire and purchase the work of these talented local artists. A percentage of all sales goes to local charities supported by the Rotary Club of Melksham.
