THE Holt Flower and Produce Show celebrated its 40th anniversary on Saturday 2nd September.
“Thank you all of you who entered this year’s show, that also included the Pickwick Painters art group exhibition,” says one of the organisers Tina Cherrington.
“This year’s weather has been kinder to the growers among us; after last year’s poor entries it was a pleasure to see so many entries in both the fruit and vegetables as well as the lovely displays of flowers. The talented artists and crafters among us have obviously been busy sewing, knitting, and making various items during the year and likewise the artists and photographers.
“It was a pleasure to see so many entries and so many men baking a cherry cake. Good try fellows. All we must do now is keep eating the cakes. Some nice recipes this year, with a special nod to our 40th year. Our thanks go to all our judges who give of their time for free, coming into the village from far and wide. Thank you again to all of you that took part.
“Several of the Pickwick Painters art group entered the art section of the competition and did very well coming first and third in the art section and third in another section.”
Tina continued, “Do you love creating, painting or making? Come and join us in the Pickwick Painters art group which meets every Tuesday 9.30am to 3.30pm at Holt Village Hall and is all about enjoying being creative.
“The Pickwick Painters are an enthusiastic group of artists and makers who share, experiment and seek to develop their work in a friendly, supportive environment. The group started out as members of an art course run by Wiltshire College but a few years ago went their own way and now use the village hall as their Tuesday base. There’s no set style or approach and that diversity is valued in the group.
“Members provide their own materials and equipment. Payment for the hall is shared monthly between participants. We have spaces available now and welcome anyone interested. Please contact either of the below, or just pop in on a Tuesday and meet our friendly gang.”
