I enjoyed pitching up my stand at Chippenham Carnival and am really looking forward to doing the same at Melksham Party in the Park – do pop over and say a hello.
I often worry that people who most need my help would never dream of contacting their MP, that’s why I try to be as accessible as possible, so people can raise their problems and questions.
I am arranging a series of coach trips to Parliament for tours and a Q and A – if you are interested call 01249 704465 or email Michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk.
I am holding a ‘Disability Confident Event’ on Friday 26th July at Melksham Town Hall between 10.00-12.30 for employers to have the chance to sign up to and learn more about this government scheme. It aims to offer support and information to employers to ensure that disabled people have equal access to employment opportunities.
Helping people with a disability is not simply about getting them a job, it is about providing all members of our society with an equal opportunity to have the career they want and the career advancement that they want.
‘Disability Confident’ raises awareness throughout businesses and organisations around the UK and I am delighted to be holding this event in our constituency. The leading disability employment specialist, Pluss, will be sponsoring and presenting at the event, alongside other speakers whose experiences shine a light on how hiring people with a disability can be a real positive for employer and employee alike.
As well as a chance to hear from charities like Pluss and the Government grants like Access to Work, which help employers accommodate any changes they may need to make, local organisations like Wiltshire Mind and national charities such as Mencap and the Down’s Syndrome Association will be holding stalls to answer any questions employers might have. If your business is keen to attend, then please do let me know.
