RESIDENTS in Norrington Lane are outraged after dozens of Eastern European HGVs arrived and parked outside their homes causing mayhem.
The HGV’s arrived at the site between Shaw and Broughton Gifford to begin work on the new Solar Farm site but the wet state of the site meant it was delayed leaving the HGV’s blocking the road.
When the drivers finally gained access to the site they had be towed off as they had sunk up to their axles in mud. The mud was then dragged out onto the lane and onto the nearby A365 Shaw Hill, causing a highway problem.
Cllr Chivers said, “I can’t tell you how angry I am – these contractors building the solar farm are nothing but cowboys; I wouldn’t employ them to dig my back garden! I can’t speak highly enough of Wiltshire Highways and the police, who have been fast to respond when I phone. The problem is they come out to sort the problems and the contractors make promises but fail to keep them, so we are back to square one.
“The company who own the site are a company called Indigo, based in Spain; the problem is they cannot be contacted as they don’t pick up the phone.
“Residents have not only been let down by this company, but also by Wiltshire Planning Department, who have failed to put proper conditions on the final planning application. They didn’t put basic conditions such as a wheel wash on the site to wash HGVs wheels before leaving the site. There is no hours condition so work can carry on day and night, and they didn’t even put a condition on to ensure a road sweeper is on site when they are working to keep the highway clean and tidy.”
