A TEENAGER from Seend has her sights firmly set on competing in a future Olympic Games.
International event rider, Libby Seed has been competing in international events since she was 14 years of age. Now aged 19, in the past five years Libby has secured a name for herself in the equestrian world and regularly competes against top riders in international competitions.
Libby has previously won a gold medal in the GB under-16 team at the European Championships in Italy last year and the year before she was reserve rider for the GB under-18 team and this year is in the reserves for GB at the Young Rider Championships in Italy.
Libby said, “It’s a big dream of mine to compete at the Olympics. I have some lovely young horses, who would be talented enough to go to the Olympics. But there is a long way between the talented material and the Olympic ready horse – lots of training, and lots of luck.
“It takes a lot of dedication to be an international event rider. I don’t get much free time as I’m always either training or competing. This means that I miss out a lot on parties and social things with my friends. I’m really lucky to have such understanding friends who support me.
“I have been competing full time in my gap year, as well as riding out for Rodger Charlton. However, I am going to Exeter University in September to study medical sciences. I hope to continue my riding career while at university just as competitively.”
