THE annual Melksham Open Gardens event raised a record £1,590 for The Children’s Society last month, as gardens across the town opened to visitors.
“We had many visitors who enjoyed the beautiful and intriguing gardens and then participated in the delicious cream teas, raising a phenomenal £1,590,” said organiser Lesley Windebank.
The event is an opportunity for residents, especially those who are also entering the Melksham Gardens Competition, to showcase their hard work and creations while raising money for The Children’s Society.
“Our small committee would like to thank the very large army of volunteers,” said Lesley. “Thank you to the gardeners, visitors and everybody who helped in any way, especially the magnificent bakers and makers of scones and cakes. You helped make it a wonderful afternoon.”
