WITH ongoing restrictions due to Covid-19, Trowbridge based Avon Valley Runners have had to turn their annual ‘Over the Hills’ race event in Bradford on Avon into a virtual one.
The group report, “The popular 12km (7.5 mile) event route is known for being hilly and muddy and even includes a river crossing at Iford.
“So this year, runners are encouraged to run the distance between 1st-30th November and to include at least 500ft (153m) minimum elevation to get the heart pumping and muscles burning – the mud is optional but recommended!
“Once complete, competitors will need to upload their own time to the results page, which will be hosted by Melksham-based sports timing company DB Max, and will receive an event memento for their hard work. As usual, the event will continue to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Support.”
Race director Jay Sims-Bagshaw said, “I’m really disappointed about this year’s race but delighted that we can still help to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Support charity, as well as offering runners a chance to still take part in their own way.
“I’m looking forward to watching the results come in and seeing any shared photos of the virtual runs too. I can’t wait to see everyone face-to-face again in 2021!”
