Melksham recently travelled to Pewsey for the fourth league game this season.
In the first quarter Pewsey’s pacey winger and Melksham’s Aaron Brailey opened the scoring for both sides, Melksham’s try converted by Rob Brailey.
Both teams competed for the next score until the Pewsey ball went out wide for the elusive winger to strike again with a converted try. Pressure was mounting from Pewsey with their confidence building and at a breakdown close to the Melksham line Pewsey took the ball over the top to score another converted try.
With half time looming a spectacular Melksham restart kick chased and gathered by Phil Stone saw Melksham start to redress the score 19-12.
Melksham’s resurgence followed on in the second half with Adam Davies scoring a try for five more points. Pewsey responded again with a converted try courtesy of their winger, his hattrick in the game. Melksham came again and good passing through the backs saw Melksham’s Rob Bailey going in and then converting his own try.
The momentum with Melksham, Alex Britton charged down a kick, chasing and collecting the ball to score an unconverted try taking the visitors into the lead. In the closing stages of the game, kicking to the Pewsey corner, the secured line out ball driven over with Jerry Flower scoring and Bailey converting for the final score 26-36 to Melksham.
It proved to be a great weekend for the Melksham club with all three of their senior teams winning their league games.
