BROUGHTON Gifford Piecemakers recently held an exhibition of their work at Broughton Gifford Village Hall helping to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Representing the group, Ann Finch said, “On Friday evening the exhibition was opened by De Pickford a local quilter and owner of Midsomer Quilting a fabric shop with classroom facilities at Chilcompton in Somerset.
“That first evening saw a steady stream of visitors admiring the many different styles and sizes of quilts that had been arranged in room settings.
“This years theme had been Christmas and there was a large display of christmas quilts, wall hangings, table runners and place settings on the stage which provided a dramatic backdrop as you entered the hall.
“Our outgoing Chairman Pat Lee set a challenge to the members to make a 12inch square quilt using a triangle shape within. The mini quilt was to contain some hand quilting. The challenge was won by Yvonne Larkin.
“Our visitors were asked to vote for their favourite quilt in the exhibition and this was won by Trudy Neck.
“We welcomed approximately 200 visitors to the exhibition who enjoyed viewing the quilts, stocking up on their quilting supplies provided by Mark Pickles of the Sewing Studio Bath, buying ready made items from our own sales table or partaking of tea/coffee and homemade cake.
“A ‘Charity Quilt’ was made by our members which was raffled in aid of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
“Linda Freeman from Trowbridge was thrilled to be the lucky winner of the quilt. The raffle raised a fabulous £450.
“Broughton Gifford Piecemakers Quilt Group meet on the third Monday of the month at Broughton Gifford Village Hall from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, we have a varied programme of speakers interspersed with sewing evenings.
“We do not meet in August so our next meeting is an ‘open’ meeting on Monday 18th September when we welcome Dawn Cameron-Dick whose talk is entitled ‘Needles and Thread – a Love Story’. Entrance fee is £5 and includes tea/coffee and homemade cake.
