This week has seen the team attend the Melksham East residential meeting where we got to meet local people, answer questions and discuss local issues.
Speeding motorists are a reoccurring issue for Melksham currently with issues raised in Bowerhill, Berryfields and Union Street to name but a few. We will be working alongside our colleagues in the Road Policing Unit to address these issues and deal with any motoring offences as a result.
This week, commencing 3rd July, sees Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness week. Keep an eye on our social media pages to find out what is and what is not ASB – it isn’t all what you think it is!
We have also been having a great time interacting with our local Year 5s and Year 6s at Junior Good Citizens events. These are multi-agency events aimed at equipping young people with the life skills and knowledge to cope in an emergency or a potentially dangerous situation, which could result in them becoming victims of crime and/or sustaining personal injuries.
The children are encouraged to deal with a variety of safety problems such as fire, road safety, anti-social behaviour, home safety and weapons awareness through a number of simulated life-like scenarios, which will raise their awareness of the contribution they can make in preventing crime and increasing their own safety.
July will also be the month where we actively deter offences relating to modern slavery and exploitation. Operation AIDENT is a nationwide operation run by the National Crime Agency which co-ordinates a multi-agency approach including local policing, to identify those who are vulnerable and at risk of exploitation through modern slavery.
This operation is supportive of highlighting the signs of modern slavery, educating people how to report it and gathering a greater intelligence picture – modern slavery is more prevalent than previously thought throughout the UK.
If you are concerned for the health and wellbeing of a person at work, please contact us so that we can do a welfare check and check all is as it is meant to be. For more information follow us on social media where we will be updating you on how we will be carrying out our campaign.
