VOLUNTEERS for Melksham Community Support have continued their efforts throughout 2021 to help residents affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Whilst the country adjusted throughout the year to ever-changing restrictions and several ‘new normals’, the local service, which was set up in early 2020 in response to the pandemic, has seen 50 volunteers provide help to 261 vulnerable and isolated residents.
Tasks included 539 prescription deliveries, 260 friendly phone calls to people living alone in need of support, 401 shopping trips for people unable to leave their homes, and 9 dog walks for pets that would not have been exercised.
“What a year that was – we couldn’t have done it without you!” said a spokesperson for Age Friendly Melksham, which manages the service. “As we move into the new year, it’s clear that Covid isn’t going anywhere yet!
“Whilst the demand on our services in 2021 was lower than the previous year, there was still a very real and significant need in the community.
“We can’t do what we do without you, our wonderful volunteers. So we would really love to say a massive thank you to you all and we hope to see you again in 2022.”
As an uncertain new year begins, the Melksham Community Support volunteers are still here to help. For more information call 01225 809265, email support@melkshamcommunity.co.uk, or visit www.melkshamcommunity.co.uk
