ALOERIC Primary School pupils have given an artist helping hand with plans for a public art project in Berryfield.
Pupils and staff met with UK artist Kerry Lemon – whose work has been seen across the world – who has been commissioned by Melksham Without Parish Council to create a canal shaped mural that will wrap around two sides of the new Berryfield village hall that is to be built in the new Bowood View housing development on Semington Road.
“Inside the canal shaped mural, it will contain hundreds of drawings celebrating special things about the local area,” explains Kerry. “The drawings will be sandblasted in porcelain – and kids will be able to walk up to the mural and create ‘rubbings’ from them.”
The aim of Kerry’s visit to the school was to test her plans for the mural and to look for further inspiration from the children about what she should draw inside the canal-shaped mural.
“Ideas have ranged from miner bees through to a scooter,” said Kerry, “and hopefully I’ll be able to incorporate some of these ideas.”
