Plans are being developed for 250 new homes across two separate sites in Bowerhill, both with proposed access from the A365 Bath Road.
One proposal, put forward by developer Hannick, includes 200 homes on land next to Melksham Oak Community School. The site, which covers approximately 11.44 acres, is allocated for housing in Wiltshire Council’s draft Local Plan and also includes land reserved for the school’s future expansion.
The developer is proposing a mix of housing types, with 30% designated as affordable housing, alongside green infrastructure and public open space.
A public consultation is currently underway, and earlier this week, residents were invited to view the plans at an exhibition held at Oakfield Stadium. The proposals can also be viewed online at www.bathroadmelksham.com, where comments can be submitted until Thursday 27th June.
Melksham Without Parish Council will consider its response at its planning committee meeting on Monday 30th June.
Meanwhile, a second proposal for 50 homes is being prepared for land south of Old Loves Farm, located on the opposite side of Bath Road.
Local residents recently received leaflets outlining the early plans by developers The Silverwood Partnership, who say they are preparing an outline planning application for a mix of open market and affordable homes, with a new access directly from the A365.
The letter stated, “Before proposals are finalised for a planning application submission, which is scheduled for later in 2025, we are contacting local residents adjacent to the site to offer an individual briefing meeting in order that we can explain the draft proposals in more detail and answer any questions.”
