Plans for a new car park at Shurnhold Fields will be on display at a public meeting at Melksham Town Hall on Sunday 12th May.
The event will give residents the chance to view the proposals, speak with Wiltshire Council representatives, and submit any questions or comments. Plans for new flood defences in the area will also be available to view.
Shurnhold Fields, located off Dunch Lane, is jointly owned by Melksham Town Council and Melksham Without Parish Council and is maintained by the Friends of Shurnhold Fields. A car park has been part of the councils’ long-term vision to improve access to the popular green space.
Wiltshire Council is managing the groundworks on behalf of the councils, including improved highway access, and will also be installing flood defences funded by a £90,000 grant from the Environment Agency.
However, some residents and councillors are opposed to the car park plans. Concerns have been raised that it could increase traffic in the area and worsen parking problems on Dunch Lane.
