CHILDREN at Bowerhill Primary School learnt life-saving skills during an Emergency Awareness Training Day with Wiltshire Air Ambulance (WAA) recently.
Pupils in Year 3, 4 and 5 learnt how to make a 999 call; manage an unconscious patient; perform CPR; and operate a defibrillator and assist a person who is choking, along with learning how to deal with wounds, burns and minor and major head injuries.
Headteacher Chris Light said, “The children really enjoyed the sessions with Chris [from WAA] who was very fun and engaging. They loved using the equipment and dummies and were incredibly sensible and learned a great deal of valuable life lessons about what to do in an emergency.
“We brought the air ambulance into school because they are very local to us and we can help support them through this training. We are looking forward to welcoming them back to school to work with our children in Reception, Year 1, 2 and 6 on 18th and 19th May.
“We will be having an Air Ambulance Day on the 18th May to fundraise. This will include dressing up as heroes and enjoying helicopter-shaped biscuits from the school kitchen as part of special themed menu for the day.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to WAA for taking the time out of their day to help the children of Bowerhill learn important, potentially, life-saving skills.
