A record field of 250 runners lined up in near perfect conditions for the third running of the Melksham 10K sponsored by the Melksham Independent News.
From the start in Lowbourne Road, Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners broke away from the field and by the start of the second of the two flat fast laps around the town, had built up a significant lead over the second place runner and came home to finish in a time of thirty three minutes and fifty nine seconds, with club mate Peter Slade in second and Mike Blackmore of Team Bath in third.
In the ladies race, Fiona Price of Avon Valley Runners continued her recent run of good form with an untroubled victory in thirty nine minutes and twenty seconds ahead of club mate Kate Hails and third placed Debbie Jones of Chippenham Harriers.
Age group prizes went to: 1st MV40 – Peter Larman of Frome Running Club; 1st MV50 – Peter Cusick of Chippenham Harriers; 1st MV60 – Anthony Sprules of Frome Running Club; 1st FV40 – Caroline Cotterell of Stroud & District AC; 1st FV50 – Diane Hier of Avon Valley Runners; 1st FV60 – Rosemary Barber of Avon Valley Runners.
Trowbridge-based Avon Valley Runners landed both the Men’s and Ladies team titles and took maximum points for the Wiltshire Road Race League which was being hosted as part of this event. Full results can be found at www.stampedesports.co .uk
