Community Action: Whitley and Shaw (CAWS) held its first community barbecue on Saturday 11th July.
“The event was a great success and had a high turnout,” said Mark Ashkowski, secretary. “We had lots of contributions to our consultation over the future of Shaw play area, and to the Neighbourhood Plan.
“We saw the official unveiling of the refurbished Shaw play area, and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) attended to present us with a sizeable grant cheque for use towards equipment that will help the villages respond better to major events such as a repeat of last year’s flooding. Perhaps most importantly of all, it was a great afternoon for us all to catch up with our neighbours.
“Thank you to all who attended, you made it a really special afternoon. The event would not have been possible without the support of Melksham Without Parish Council, and without the strenuous efforts of CAWS members.
“We would also like to thank Waitrose, Aldi, Leekes, Moles Brewery, Asda, and Colour Idea for their generous contributions to the event.”
