The Melksham family of the late Michelle Phillips, who was tragically killed in a road traffic collision in Devon at the age of 26, are inviting people to join them at a special remembrance service for road traffic victims next month.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims service, organised by national charity RoadPeace, will be held on Sunday 16th November at 11am at The Guildhall, High Street, Bath BA1 5AW.
This ceremony acknowledges all lives lost and broken on the road in the South West. It is also an opportunity to thank the emergency services and medical professionals who deal with the traumatic aftermath of road death and injury.
During the service, photos of those being remembered will be displayed, and their names will be read out. If you would like to remember a loved one in this way, you can submit names and photographs to Group Coordinator Kate Uzzell at Kate.Uzzell@roadpeace.org or info@roadpeace.org
Following the service, there will be time for light refreshments, after which there will be a short procession to the memorial stone in St James’ Gardens (Pigeon Park), Lower Borough Walls, for the laying of flowers.
Michelle’s mother, Sandra Phillips, said, “We would love it if anyone wanted to join us there, as it is for everyone, especially those who need help at those awful times.
“I know people who have become good friends after meeting at the service. You don’t really know what it’s like until you have been through it yourself.
“All are very welcome and many of us who have lost loved ones in road traffic collisions always find it most helpful to get together to catch up with each year on this day.”
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year – to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads, together with their families, friends and the many others who are also affected. A day of remembrance was initiated by RoadPeace in 1993, and adopted by the United Nations as a global day in 2005.
