Melksham residents are being invited to apply for the role of councillor at Melksham Town Council as it seeks to fill a vacant seat.
The town council is set to co-opt a new councillor, a process in which councillors fill a vacant seat outside of a public election. This follows the co-options of two councillors in June. At that time, there were three vacant seats, but councillors chose to fill only two seats after the other five candidates failed to reach six votes.
CEO of Melksham Town Council Hayley Bell said, “Melksham Town Council is inviting enthusiastic and community-minded individuals to consider joining the council through co-option. If you have a passion for making a difference and expertise in areas such as environment, human resources, marketing or facilities management, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of Melksham.
“Co-option allows the council to appoint new members outside of the usual election cycle, bringing in fresh perspectives and specialist knowledge to support local initiatives and decision-making.
“Are you ready to make a difference? Whether you are a seasoned professional or someone with lived experience and a strong commitment to the town, we want to hear from you. The council is particularly keen to strengthen its capacity in key areas that impact the well-being and development of Melksham.”
Candidates must meet the legal requirements to stand as a councillor. For full eligibility details and guidance, residents should contact Melksham Town Council.
Interested individuals should contact Melksham Town Council office for more information on the co-option process and how to express interest at towncouncil@melksham-tc.gov.uk
