Roger Keen’s Community Service Committee can be well satisfied by their organisation of a wine-tasting evening in the Art House Café which looked very attractive under the guidance of Rosemary Keen and Sarah Stead.
Similarly, Roger and Rosemary Keen along with Bob and Sarah Stead and their helpers prepared an appetising cheese supper for after the wine-tasting.
Peter King, club press officer reported, “Once again, the star of the show was John Whittaker, a Waitrose wine expert who recently moved from their Melksham branch to an impressive new one at Malmesbury.
“John used a mixture of wine tasting and a quiz which tested ones knowledge, with a choice of five unusual wines. These varied from a refreshing sparkling white, a Greek Rose, another white from Chile, and a Californian wine called BAREFOOT, very reasonably priced and one of their best sellers.
“John’s relaxed but informed style had great appeal and was warmly received by his very good audience. After supper, my winning raffle ticket, with a choice of a warm red blanket, for my wife, provided personal pleasure! The evening raised a profit of £350 to be donated to the RUH Hope for Tomorrow appeal, a mobile chemotherapy project which will bring immediate treatment to many patients.
“The club are most grateful for the support of Waitrose, both financial and in terms of their time, and particularly John’s wine expertise and his genial manner.”
