TWO singers from Melksham performed in front of Prince Harry at the Invictus Games’ closing ceremony alongside world famous acts.
Donna-Kate Wilson and Linda Lane formed part of the Military Wives Choir who performed in front of 26,000 people at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park alongside Bryan Adams, Foo Fighters, Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vamps and Rizzle Kicks.
The performance marked the end of the first Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style multi-sport event in which wounded soldiers took part in a variety of sporting events. Prince Harry helped organise the games with 300 competitors from 13 countries taking part. The Military Wives Choir sang ‘Wherever You Are’ and ‘Stronger Together’, an emotional and professional performance in front of the huge audience.
The Melksham pair are part of The Warminster Military Wives Choir who were honoured to be invited. Chair of the choir Angeline Bowser said, “The ladies feel both privileged and proud to have represented the Military Wives Choir Foundation and all that the Invictus Games stand for. There are more events coming up locally which the choir will be performing at such as the Warminster Festival, The Levels’ Best Farmers’ and Craft Market at Montacute House, and others to be confirmed.
“If there are any other local ladies with a military connection out there who would like to join the choir, then please contact us.”
