Melksham racked up eight tries to two in their second game of the season away to Supermarine.
The first half started well for the home team intercepting a pass and sprinting in to score. The visitors, undaunted, pressed hard into home territory, meeting a strong defence on the line with Melksham’s number eight, Ben Smith, diving over the defenders to level it. Shortly after Luke Cador, just subbed on, had an evasive run up the wing to score just before half-time 5-15.
Both teams battled for the next score, the dominant Melksham scrum winning the ball passed out to Winger Matt Van Den Boogaard, showing his pace and strength to extend the visitors’ lead. With confidence growing the visitors second row, Ryan Brown, took a pass at pace from the back of the scrum 10m out shaking of defenders and powering in for his first team try on his debut.
Supermarine competed hard and three consecutive penalties gave them field position which they capitalised upon with a converted dry. Melksham’s control of the game was re-established shortly after with lineout ball carried by Alex Cox offloading to the chasing flanker Harry Clarke, tackled but stretching for the line to score. Melksham are in full flow now and two scores from fly half Rory Mulgrew, backing his pace, adding to the total to win the game 12-42
