THE Tandoori in Melksham has re-opened after a major refit.
The popular restaurant in Church Street welcomed back customers last month with a new look, new menu and new name.
Founded as the Melksham Tandoori in 1984 by Mayna Miah, it has now re-opened – renovated and revitalised – by Mayna’s son, Sayeed, as The Tandoori.
“After an extensive refurbishment, we are ready to dazzle your taste buds once again!” said Sayeed.
“Our aim is to serve you the most flavourful and authentic Indian cuisine in town. Whether you’re planning a cosy dinner with friends, a special occasion with the family or a delightful takeaway experience, we’ve got you covered!
“It’s been a major renovation; we ripped everything out and started again. There is new flooring, a new bar, a new kitchen, new tables and chairs, and even new cutlery. And we’re delighted to say we’ve had fantastic feedback, including some glowing comments online.
“We’ve aimed to create an inviting atmosphere and a memorable dining experience; we hope local people will think, ‘We don’t have to go to Bath for great food and a great evening out’.”
The menu has also undergone a revamp with the help of The Tandoori’s new chefs. “We have an exciting new menu which aims to blend authentic and traditional Indian dishes with a few modern additions,” added Sayeed.
“We have all our popular favourites, from rich and creamy curries to sizzling tandoori delights, but have added a few enticing new dishes. These include signature dishes like Goan Fish Curry – spiced halibut cooked with coconut milk, green chilli, tomato and ginger; Seabass Special – a seabass fillet marinated in our special sauce; and Dalcha Lamb – marinated tender lamb cubes with chana dahl, red onions, green chillies, peppers, curry leaves and a hint of ginger and fresh mint; together with street food specials such as Loaded Chicken Tikka Fries.
“We’ve cut down on the capacity in the restaurant from 44 tables to 36 to give each table a bit more space, making it the ideal venue for special occasions, intimate dinners, or a casual meet-up. In addition to the dine-in experience, we offer a takeaway service with delivery now available.
“We used local tradespeople for the refit and would like to thank BSB Flooring, SS Carpentry, Payne Upholstery, Beech Decorating, Millard Signs and Graphics, MJ Elmes Electrical and Wiltshire Framing.
“And a big thank you to family and friends who have rallied around to help.”
