A MELKSHAM-BASED ‘turnaround’ school for students who have been unsuccessful in mainstream education, is hosting a summer fete next week to raise money for a school trip.
The school, which is called Project SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health), is located on Station Approach, off Bath Road, and it will hold its summer fete at the neighbouring Melksham Hub Café at the train station on Saturday 17th July, from 11am to 3pm.
Organisers are promising a live band, a barbecue, raffle, stalls, a ‘tropical discovery workshop’, bar and much more.
From the school, English tutor Kate Keirl said, “We are a non-profit / funded turnaround school, called Project SEMH and Nikita Boydell is the headteacher and founder. We have been running in our current location for just about a year, and all of our kids are vulnerable, most have an education and health care plan.
“They have all been misunderstood in mainstream [education], and lots of which have been through significant trauma which has left them feeling unsafe and unable to learn. We offer them bespoke placements, where we concentrate on building their confidence, and getting them back to a place where they are able to learn.
“All of them are doing so well, and have progressed hugely with us, something they have not experienced before. Most of our young people have never been on a residential trip, and we want to be able to offer them the same opportunities, which may be taken for granted in mainstream.
“We are therefore holding a summer fete which will take place on Saturday 17th July, Station Approach, Melksham.
“Melksham Hub have also been amazing, and are teaming up with us to let us use the space effectively. This is in order to raise as much money as possible to be able to take them somewhere which will benefit them in so many ways. We hope to see as many people there as possible for support!
“There are limited spaces for a stall if you would like to promote your small business, and we are asking a donation of £10 if you would like to partake. We are also asking if there are any local places that can donate for our raffle or tombola, as this will really help us reach our goal!”
Please email nikita@projectsemh.co.uk with any stall holding requests, and shannon@projectsemh.co.uk with any offers for the raffle or tombola.
