THE SCOUTS will deliver festive cheer in Melksham this Christmas, as they have now set up special postboxes to help deliver your Christmas cards and greetings around town.
Following on from the success of last year’s total of 2,560 letters posted – 360 more than in 2014 – Melksham Scout Group will be again running their own Christmas post service.
All you have to do is write the address, clearly, on the envelope and drop it into one of the special postboxes that are in shops all across the town. The Scouts will then deliver your festive cards to any address within the Melksham, Bowerhill or Berryfield areas.
There is no need to attach a stamp but you are asked to donate 20p per card – that’s less than half the price of a second class stamp. The last posting date is Thursday 15th December. You can find a Scouts’ postbox at the following Melksham locations; Art House Café in the Market Place, Tops Hair Salon, Scissors Hairdressers, Cobblers Bench, Tourist Information Centre, Card and News Centre, and on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings to the Scout Hut near Waitrose.
If you are not sure of the address on the front of the envelope, please put a return address on the back.
Claire Neal, group Scout leader said, “We’ve had an increase of letters each year since we started in 2012 when we delivered around 1,400 cards.
“The children love delivering the post and we always have lovely comments from people when they’ve received their post. It’s brilliant for the community and also helps the elderly who can’t perhaps get around to post their own Christmas greetings.”
The Scout Hut will also host its annual Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December starting at 6pm. There will be lots of stalls and refreshments – plus a visit from Father Christmas. Everyone is welcome.
