Seend will be holding its annual Summer Fete and Flower Show – now in its 67th year – on the 13th of August.
The event – one of the largest and most popular summer village events in the whole of Wiltshire – is being held on the Lye Field and in Community Centre in the centre of the village.
Fete organiser Steven Vaux said, “As in previous years, there will be a large line up of entertainment and attractions.
“The Fete will begin with at 12:45pm with a Fancy Dress Parade before the fete is officially opened by our Fete Princess, Caitlin Balnave, Prince, Joseph Bowes, and attendants Martha Honeybone and Tatum Owen; all from Seend School, and sponsored by Iceni Cycles (transport) and Nancy Rose Hats (regalia).
“On the field will be the usual favourites such as vintage and classic cars, the largest bric-a-brac stall in Wiltshire, a beer tent, BBQ, and Grand Draw with fabulous prizes.
“Singer Betsy Harmony will perform her vintage harmonies and Melksham Rock and Roll Club will also appear with demos and a rock n’ roll workshop. Puppet-magician Mr Snuffy, his Punch & Judy Show, and the Melksham Ukulele Band will also attend.
“There is ample parking (donations welcome!) and admission to the Fete is free.”
Steven continued, “The Flower Show is a spectacular display of home-grown fruit, vegetables, flowers, craft items and home produce. It is one of the biggest and most prestigious shows of its type in the county, attracting competitors not only from Seend, but from the surrounding towns and villages.
“It will be held in the Seend Community Centre, next to the Lye Recreation Field. Judging will take place from 11.30am until 1.30pm, following which the doors are open to the public.”
The Flower Show is an open event so entries are invited from all who may be interested in showing the results of their hard work in the garden, kitchen, and house. There are two sections for children ages up to 8 years-old and for 9 to 12 year-olds.
“There will be cups and certificates galore!” added Steven. “There is a grand trophy for Best Exhibit in Show; the Altfield Bowl generously presented by the sponsor Altfield. Altfield has also presented the Altfield Cup for Most Points in the Home Produce classes.
“There is a single exhibitor fee of £2 for an unlimited number of entries and children’s entries are free.”
