A WOMEN only boxing charity event, raising funds for suicide prevention, saw 12 brave women step through the ropes for the first time and put on a night of entertainment for the people of Melksham last month at Melksham Assembly Hall.
Special guest at the event was Joe Egan, retired heavyweight boxer and actor. Professional female boxers also attended, including Bex Connely, who will be fighting on the biggest female card at the 02 Arena on Saturday 15th October, and Megan Redstall, who trains at the Contender pro boxing gym.
Tracy Steel from On the Block Fitness Training said, “It was a sell-out event for our first show, everybody in Melksham showed such incredible support! We raised £5,000 and donate that all to the charity Suicide Prevention UK.”
The event was organised by Tracy, with the support of The Contender Gym owner, Mark Kent.
The women who stepped through the ropes to take part in the event were: Vicky Handley, Laura Vidler, Carlie Bourne, Sarah Mizen, Claire Stephens, Justina Lee, Amy Ault, Danielle Cristofaro, Erin Hussey, Liv Naish –cork and Clare McCarthy.
