Over 200 runners took part in the second annual Semington Slog last month and the race has been hailed a huge success by organisers.
Friends of St George’s Primary School held the 10k race and fun run on Saturday 7th May.
Race organiser Victoria Farmer said, “Runners set off on a fantastically varied multi-terrain route including road, bridleway and towpath. Many were from local running clubs and, although the sun wasn’t shining during the race, it was still a very warm morning.
“Semington Slog 10k medals were awarded to all finishers, as well as finisher’s bags and a delicious barbecue hot dog. Trophies were awarded to the winners. The 1.5km fun run was also enjoyed by all, with many children and adults joining in. Medals were awarded to runners and the winning Fun Run Trophy was awarded to Lucas Bailey for crossing the line first. It was great to see so many children taking part!”
The results of the 10k run were: • First Male: Ian McKee in 39:11. • First Female: Clare Wood of Avon Vally Runners 44: 52. • First Male Veteran: Brett Flook of Avon Valley Runners in 39:49. • First Female Veteran: Rohaise Des Voeux of Chippenham Harriers in 48:42.
A prize was also awarded to the First Semington Villager who was James Atwill in 43:19.
Victoria continued, “DB Max did an amazing job using the latest technology to time the race and runners were impressed with the time print outs at the finish. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ross Hillman Ltd, Cooper Tires and Anytime Fitness who sponsored the event. Also thanks to SportsBug, Sainsbury’s, the Somerset Arms, and Patty Perry from Zumba Fitness.
“It was a true community day with members of the local community turning out to support either by marshalling or lining the route to cheer on the runners. All money raised from the event will go towards improving the learning environment at St George’s School in Semington, and providing the extras that a school budget can’t stretch to.
“We have received amazing feedback again from runners and are looking forward to the third Semington Slog next year.”
