Volunteers are needed to join the committee for Shaw Village Hall to help with the running of the facility.
Based at The Beeches in Shaw, the hall is run by a committee of seven members. However, the current team is struggling to manage everything required to keep the hall running as they would like.
“We are keen to engage with younger people to share the load and help us shape the future of the hall and playing field,” explained Chair Mike Booth.
“People from the George Ward estate are very welcome to join, as we know they use the facilities here and attend events we have held.”
Specific roles the committee is looking to fill are a grant funding application coordinator and a vice-chair. However, Mike said that as many volunteers as possible are welcome to apply.
Grant/Funding Application Coordinator
Mike said, “Working with the rest of the committee, we need someone who can explore opportunities for grant funding for various projects that form part of our long-term strategy for the hall.”
Vice-Chair
“The role would require the volunteer to stand in for the chair when necessary and to strengthen the committee,” explained Mike.
“We meet every other month for a committee meeting and stay in touch between these via email and WhatsApp. We work closely with Community Action: Whitley & Shaw to stage events such as our popular summer fairs at the playing field; sadly, these have been cancelled for the second year in a row due to a lack of volunteers.”
