A RIVER Mead Primary School student has been chosen to officially open Shurnhold Fields – Melksham’s new mini-country park.
Six-year old Oliwia Wishiewska, was chosen as the overall winner of a recent colouring competition run by Melksham Town Council, Melksham Without Parish Council and the Friends of Shurnhold Fields – she also came first in her age group, 5 to 7 years old.
Oliwia will have the honour of officially opening Shurnhold Fields when it has its grand opening later this year.
Local councillors and members of the Friends of Shurnhold Fields, Pat Aves and Paul Carter, said, “We were delighted with the entries – it was a very hard job to decide on a winner, but we think Oliwia did an outstanding job.”
Other entries of note were, Evalyn Janes, age 5, runner up in the 5-7 age group; Verity Samways, age 7, runner up in the 5-7 age group; Charlotte Willis, age 5, highly commended in the 5-7 age group; Francis Janes, age 8, first place in the 8-10 age group; Henry Samways, age 10, runner up in the 8-10 age group; and Isabella Willis, age 8, highly commended in the 8-10 age group.
