THE Melksham Skatepark extension has been officially opened by its sponsors and local councillors.

At last week’s event, a plaque was unveiled, a show of thanks to the donors who helped raise the £25,000 needed to install the half-pipe, a U-shaped mini-ramp that allows skateboarding beginners to learn new skills.
The new half-pipe can be found at the skatepark, which originally opened in 2017, in King George V park.
Representatives from sponsors Gompels Pharmacy, Gompels Healthcare, Melksham Area Board, Selwood Housing, and TKC Sales Ltd, attended the event. Unable to attend was sponsor Dumb Clothing.
Before unveiling the plaque, chairman of the Melksham Area Board, cllr Phil Alford, praised the involvement of the sponsors and local skater James Threlfall MBE in the project.
“This is about the sponsors and James, and their hard work bringing everyone together,” said cllr Alford. “Your hard work and sponsorship has afforded us this opportunity and created this great facility for the town. Thank you all for your contribution.”
James Threlfall MBE, broadcaster and local skater, said, “On behalf of all local skaters I would like to express our thanks to the local councils and to the local companies who have made this happen. I’ve grown up skateboarding at the skatepark in Melksham and the fact that we have such a high standard facility so supported both by businesses and the local community alike is incredible.
“We are so lucky to have a space like this in the heart of our community and I urge anyone thinking about having a go themselves, whatever age, to get down and give it a try.”
