Spectacular Northern Lights display spotted in Melksham

The Northern Lights made a spectacular appearance in Melksham skies earlier this month.

The lights, or aurora borealis, were spotted above Melksham on 19th January as a result of a strong geomagnetic storm, with one resident, Alex Farley, capturing this image.

The sighting was one of many across the country. The last time they were clearly visible in Melksham was May 2024, although some sightings have been reported since.

During an emergency debate at full council on Tuesday 20th October, councillors overwhelmingly backed a motion condemning the decision and demanding continued investment in the key north-south route. They also called for the more than £500,000 the council has spent developing the scheme to be refunded. Read more on our website. The link is in our Bio.
  • Gompels submits detailed plans for new warehouse Gompels has taken another step towards building its new warehouse in Melksham after submitting a detailed design of the scheme to Wiltshire Council. The reserved matters application covers the scale, layout, appearance, landscaping and access for the proposed development on land south of the A365 Bath Road and west of Turnpike Garage. It follows outline planning permission being granted earlier this year for the warehouse and office development, which the company says will be a major investment in the town and create hundreds of jobs.
