EXCITEMENT has reached fever-pitch for the official grand opening of the new splashpad in King George V playing field this weekend.
The much-anticipated waterplay facility, located outside the park pavilion, will be officially opened this Saturday, 3rd August from 11am to 4pm with a beach-themed party.
It’s the first phase in an exciting redevelopment of the town’s park which also includes an all-new play area located next to the splashpad, an adventure area, café, sports area and a nature area; a trim trail, improved pathways and a community sensory garden.
In preparation for the official opening, the splashpad was opened last weekend for children to test out the new attraction in the park – proving a huge hit with Melksham’s youngsters.
“It looks fantastic,” said one Melksham local who was passing through the park. “We have a fantastic park, but it really needed something like this – the town council has done a great job! I can’t wait to see all the young families having fun in the sun!”
At the grand opening this Saturday, as well as access to the new splashpad, there will be bouncy castles; a magic show at 1pm; a Punch and Judy puppet show at 3pm; beach-themed sports provided by Active Trowbridge; fairground rides and games; music; slush puppies and ice cream, and hot food for sale; deckchairs; and seaside-themed photo boards to pose with.
The town council will also be giving away 250 commemorative refillable water bottles to mark the splashpad’s opening.
Community engagement manager for the town council, Debbie Bentley said, “The town council is thrilled to deliver on our promise of a splashpad for the town’s park. This is a fantastic facility for Melksham that is sure to be enjoyed by many children for years to come!
“The park pavilion will also be open on the day providing access to toilets and baby-changing facilities. And the town council will be running a tuck shop from the pavilion, offering refreshments and snacks, which will be open for the summer whilst the splashpad is operational. Picnic benches will also be available, so people are welcome to come along to the opening party with their own picnics.”
