THE Art House Cafe has something for all art lovers over the coming spring months.
Organiser Pattie Lockett said, “Regular visitors to the Art House Cafe will know that behind the newly painted ‘Fire Engine’ red doors there is always a warm welcome, – after all it was once the town fire station!
“There are delicious home-made food and cakes, as well as coffee, tea, soup, cold drinks, served by very friendly volunteer staff – the list is almost endless.
“But one of the best things about the cafe is the constantly changing exhibition of affordable art by local artists: Melksham’s own art gallery! And best of all, the entire profits go to local charities.
“So if you haven’t visited us before, come along and see what you’ve been missing. The current artists are showing a variety of subjects: John Hughes paints colourful landscapes (we think he particularly likes cows!) and bright flowers; Ruth Juneman’s work is very varied. Amongst others she is exhibiting two very well-drawn animal portraits, as well as a seascape in mixed media. Colin Godwin has also brought in a large beach scene, landscapes and portraits; something for everyone, in fact.
“From this Sunday, 4th March, there will be a complete change: we are going abstract! Well-known local artist Roger Marsh has shown his work at the cafe before and his striking, colourful canvasses are always a feast for the eye. Adrian Catchpole specialises in bright geometric designs which regular visitors may remember from last year. Newcomer Elisabeth Richardson’s work will impress with its painterly confidence.
“Lacock Art Group have booked the gallery for the month of April and we look forward to welcoming them once more. They always create an interesting and varied exhibition of work from their talented members.
‘Finally, we are delighted to hear from local artists who may not have exhibited with us before. Our rates are very reasonable and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that any sales will help boost the Rotary Club’s fund for local charities. Please ask in the cafe for a “New Artist” form, or contact Pattie Lockett on 0793 639 3881 or email pattie.lockett@gmail.com.”
