36 volunteers gathered in the St Michael’s Churchyard on Saturday 30th November to join the Melksham Town Team for an afternoon of work in the churchyard.
With help from the church wardens, town council caretakers and the army cadets, the team made a huge difference in the grounds of the St Michael’s Churchyard, clearing away dead branches and weeds, and removing moss and ivy off gravestones.
Penny England, one of the volunteers said, ‘It was a heart warming event – it was good seeing so many people, especially young people, giving up their time for the general good of the community and really enjoying themselves too!”
Terri Welch, the chair of Town Team said, “I am absolutely delighted with what has been achieved and also for new partners we have involved.
“Asda also very kindly provided soup, rolls and mince pies for the volunteers, as well as extra gloves for the workers. The volunteers really appreciated the hot nourishment after an afternoon of hard work.”
