THE Royal British Legion’s annual County Parade marched through Melksham earlier this month, with standard bearers and personnel from across Wiltshire visiting the town.
Members of the Royal British Legion gathered on Church Street before marching to St Michael and All Angels Church for a service to rededicate the standards.
Veterans, service-goers, and Shrewton Silver Band then joined the standard bearers on a parade to Melksham Assembly Hall for refreshments.
Kenneth Graham, poppy appeal organiser for Melksham said, “It was an excellent day; the service and parade went very well and it was a lovely day for it. That was the first time I had been involved and I thought it was great.
“Afterwards, the women’s section really excelled themselves with the refreshments at the Assembly Hall.”
The event was also attended by Mayor of Melksham Terri Welch, Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan, and decorated serviceman General Sir Jack Deverell.
Melksham’s branch of the Royal British Legion raised over £20,000 in last year’s Poppy Appeal – a record for the town.
They are looking for people to help volunteer and beat that record in 2015.
