A junior pro scooter rider from Melksham is aiming to compete in Europe next year after securing strong results in recent competitions.
George Brown, 16, is due to compete in the Scoot GB National Finals in November in Corby after finishing third in the South qualifier in April and second in the North and Wales qualifier in August.
He also finished third in a separate Scoot GB junior pro competition in July.
The results have helped George gain points towards the European championships, while a high enough placing at the national finals could earn him an invitation to compete in Europe next year.
He said, “I have been riding my scooter for five years. I gained junior sponsorship last year with the clothing brand Smith and Feeble, which moved me into the junior pro category.”
George, who is a former student at Melksham Oak Community School, trains for a minimum of three hours a day at Melksham skate park.
He said, “I practise overhead tricks and 360 tricks. When going into the competitions, I have a routine that I have been practising. I don’t have a trainer or a coach; it’s just me.”
George has been competing in the junior pro category since moving up from intermediate level last year. To help other people get into the sport, George is also offering scooting lessons in Melksham for £20 an hour, which can be booked through his Facebook page.
“I just want to help people get into the sport and if there is anything they want to learn how to do, I can show them,” he said.
