Melksham Lions have praised the generosity of the community after another successful festive season of fundraising.
Their popular Father Christmas float, which toured the town visiting shops and residential areas, raised £2,750 for local causes.
Jim Whyborn, president of Melksham Lions Club reports, “Thanks once again to the wonderful people of Melksham for your generosity and support for Melksham Lions Club. You have enabled us to assist local people when they most need it, often at a moment’s notice.
“We managed a few trips out with Santa, but unfortunately could not get everywhere, sorry if some of you were disappointed. We must try harder this year and any help you could give us would be much appreciated.
“Many thanks to the following who sponsored the float refurbishing; K.M. Farm Parts, Timber Tack, Eurocell, A.L. King Roofing, BSB Flooring, Mark Hussey Engineering, Feet First, V.K Graphics, Melksham Car Care, Andi Cabs and Kings H.I. Ltd.
“We now look forward to 2020, you will see us at events in Melksham and around the area with our Lions tombola and lucky dip, so popular that we have had to order more as you won the last lot!
“We are busy preparing for our Easter egg raffle in pubs and businesses in and around Melksham. Last year we raised £400 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, let’s try and do better this year with the proceeds going to Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Free Wheelers (Blood Bikes), both worthwhile causes, you never know when you might need their help! So look out for the Easter eggs, they will be special this year so please buy a ticket or two.
“We are always on the lookout for new members so if you are new to the area it’s a great way to make friends and to get to know what goes on in Melksham, it’s satisfying to give a little bit back.
