Sat. 18th March – Toolstation Premier Division
Cribbs 0-1 Melksham Town
Sat. 25th March – Toolstation Premier Division
Melksham Town 3-0 Bridport
Town are back in with a serious chance of finishing second in the league following a run of six games unbeaten since the middle of February.
Back-to-back wins with two clean sheets have Town eyeing up the runner-up spot. They also have the quarter final in the Les Phillips Cup to look forward to.
After a mixed bag of results in February, Town have bounced back to form this month with four wins and a draw.
They are now third in the Toolstation Premier Division – one point behind Street – and both teams have six games left to play, including a fixture together at Oakfields.
On Saturday 18th March, Melksham travelled to Bristol to face Cribbs and came away with a 1-0 victory.
Manager Darren Perrin said, “I was delighted with the Cribbs result. We played in very windy conditions and put in a great performance against a strong, uncompromising side, and got a thoroughly deserved win thanks to a goal from Gary Higdon.”
The following Saturday, 25th March, Bridport visited Oakfields and were struck down 3-0 in front of a crowd of nearly 350.
A goal by Dave Thompson and two more from Luke Ballinger added another three points to Town’s tally.
Perrin said, “We were much more like our old selves against Bridport. We were hard to break down, kept busy off the ball and made some good chances on it.”
Town’s next game will be a Les Phillips quarter final match at home against Buckland Athletic this Saturday at 3pm.
The game is a clash between the two highest ranked clubs left in the competition; a win mean Town’s first appearance in the semi-final and put them in with a strong chance of winning the competition for the first time.
Darren added, “I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game and am hoping for a good crowd. We’ve beaten Buckland twice this season already so the players know they can win, and whoever goes through will have a good chance of winning the cup.
“The team are playing great; we’ve only lost three league games all season. We had a bit of a blip in February against Shepton Mallet and Willand, but the most recent games have been brilliant – I couldn’t ask for more.
“We’re going to have a busy month and finish these last six games on a high and hope for the best. If we win them all we’ll finish in second place, which might be good enough for promotion, but we don’t know yet.
“The supporters have been brilliant at the new stand and we need that to continue to the end of the season.”
Mike Perrott is injured but is expected to be fit again for next weekend’s game against Street.
