MAYOR of Melksham, cllr Adrienne Westbrook, has reassured the town that local community groups are working to tackle anti-social behaviour and drug-taking amongst some young people in Melksham.
The beginning of the year saw a number of incidents around the town, and acts of vandalism on a number of cars and community areas, which raised the question of how the town council was going to deal with the issue.
Following a “successful meeting” earlier this year discussing the options, Mayor Adrienne Westbrook told Melksham News, “There are definitely things happening in the town to reduce anti-social behaviour The details have to remain under the radar due to obvious reasons, as we want these groups to talk to those offending, but there are definitely things going on to help.
“The meeting we had to discuss the issues was very successful. Motiv8 have accepted our invitation to help us in tackling this issue.”
Motiv8 is a service for young people who need help with substance misuse.
Whilst work is on-going, anti-social behaviour is continuing to be a problem. Melksham Police are currently appealing for information regarding a suspected incident by a group of youths which occurred on Monday 19th March, causing damage to safety equipment by the river near to Cooper Avon Tyres at approximately 3.30pm.
If you recognise the youths pictured or have any further information, call the police on 101.
