MELKSHAM Town Council has received the resignation of the town clerk, Linda Roberts, following a turbulent period at the council marked by councillors’ criticism of council staff leadership and the resignation of several councillors.
Linda Roberts, who had been the clerk since 2019, resigned last week after a period of absence from the council, which came after the council was criticised for installing £18,000 worth of dog agility equipment in the park, before removing it due to safety concerns. Following an investigation by the Melksham News, questions were raised about whether the council had sought professional advice prior to installing the equipment.
Town councillors had previously expressed doubts about the way the council was being managed, with cllr Jonathon Hubbard publicly declaring that he had ‘no confidence’ in the council staff leadership.
Mayor of Melksham, councillor Simon Crundell said in a brief statement, “I can confirm the council has received a letter of resignation from the Town Clerk, Linda Roberts. There will be a fuller update in due course, but I cannot comment further currently.”
