Melksham Town Council is supporting a local young person by providing a work placement in their busy office.
Matthew Pearce, 21, approached the council looking for direct experience in public service work as he had chosen to not go down the university route.
In his first few weeks in the post, Matthew has helped prepare reports, undertaken research on how to reduce the amount of dog fouling in towns and cities, drawn up action points and just recently helped the team prepare for the annual Mayor’s Reception.
In between juggling files and answering calls from local residents, Matthew told Melksham News, “I’ve really enjoyed my time at the town council so far, everyone I’ve worked with and met has been really kind and helpful and I’m sure I will benefit largely from the whole experience.”
Melksham Town Council’s clerk, Linda Roberts added, “It is very important for the town council to lead the way in supporting Melksham’s young people. Matthew is a credit to his age-group, and he will benefit by leaving this experience with a portfolio showing all the work he has completed to show prospective employers or to aid access to further education.”
