THE Christmas and new year period certainly saw the best and the worst of Melksham Town FC, reports club chairman Darren Perrin.
Town blew Paulton Rovers away with a convincing 5 – 0 win on Saturday 23rd December, thanks to goals from Jaiden Pearce, Ben Baments, Albie Hopkins, Robbie James and Sam Hendy.
They then travelled to Frome Town for their Boxing Day clash and drew 2 – 2 in which there was five players sent off in an end-to-end encounter. The Town’s goals were scored by Sam Hendy and Ralph Graham.
Although we would have been happy with a point before the game, there was disappointment that we did not go on and win the game.
On New Year’s Day we hosted Westbury United. The ground staff did an incredible job in getting the game on, considering all the rain that we have had. In front of a crowd of 600, Town produced their worst performance of the season. In awful conditions Westbury thoroughly deserved their victory of 2 – 0 and could and probably have won by more. We were outrun and outfought and the manager was certainly not a happy man, especially with all the effort to get the game on and the magnificent support we received on the day and for the other two games.
We now have two away games at Bashley and Bishop Cleeve where we all expect to see a reaction from the players.
On behalf of Melksham Town FC, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year especially our supporters, sponsors, volunteers, players, management and of course readers of the Melksham News.
