MELKSHAM Town will be looking to hit the ground running when the new season starts next month as they build on an impressive run of results in pre-season friendlies.
The first team are having a promising pre-season, having won four of five games and scoring 18 goals, and drawing 2-2 with Frome Town, who play in a league two tiers higher.
Town though face a daunting start to the 2016/17 season with two months of consecutive away games as they wait for the finishing touches to be made to their brand new £7million Woolmore Farm ground; the first home match will not be until 15th October.
Nonetheless, Town will be looking to carry on their winning ways that have seen unprecedented league and cup success in the past few years.
Manager Darren Perrin says, “It’s going to be tough not having a home fixture for so long but the team are buzzing for this season to start. Everyone’s excited about this new chapter in Melksham Town’s illustrious history and we’re looking forward to big things happening at the club.”
Melksham Town play their final three friendlies this Saturday with split teams: – Westbury United (A), 3pm; Radstock Town (A), 3pm; Chippenham Town (A), 3pm.
Then the team will kick off the season proper with an FA Cup tie away at United Services Portsmouth at 3pm on Saturday 6th August.
