Saturday 11 March Southern League Div. One Cinderford Town 0 Melksham Town 4
HAVING survived a morning pitch inspection, Town travelled to Cinderford on Saturday, 11th March, with a thoroughly depleted side through illness and injuries.
With no less than five regulars missing, the players and staff knew this was going to be a tough test, reports Chairman, Darren Perrin. However, the Town produced a magnificent performance from start to finish and were worthy and comprehensive winners.
Town started on the front foot and deservedly took the lead through Albie Hopkins after 11 minutes. Six minutes later, Ralph Graham slotted in to double the lead, and then Jay Malshanky put the Town further ahead on 37 minutes. The half time score was 3 v 0.
The biggest threat at this time was the inclement weather that had come in, which made the pitch very heavy and players struggling to keep their feet. However, after 52 minutes, Hopkins scored his second and Melksham’s fourth goal, to put the game to bed. Cinderford did create a few chances, but to be fair, the Town also missed some great chances from the lively substitute Tom Dowell and Hopkins.
To cap a good day for the club, the Reserves also produced a superb performance in beating high- flying Kintbury 3 – 1.
The win for the first team leaves the club three points outside of the play offs, with a massive game this Saturday 18th March against fellow play off chasers Evesham United, kick off is at 3pm. Please get the word out and get as many friends and family to attend Saturday as we look to make the play offs or finish in our highest ever position in the Southern League. Attacking, good passing football and a team and management set up to like – you can make the difference.
On Tuesday 21st March in the evening, the Town are at Home to champions-elect AFC Totton, kick off is at 7.45pm. Totton are the big spenders of the league and a fantastic team, so two great games in the space of four days.
