Town’s carpet and flooring company celebrates 10th birthday

TOTAL Carpets and Flooring is celebrating its 10th birthday this month and a decade of selling and fitting carpets and luxury flooring to residents of Melksham and beyond. 

The company is owned by Steve White and managed by Nikki Ganley who between them have 60 years’ experience in the industry.  

“We supply and fit carpets and vinyl, laminate and wood flooring using our own team of experienced fitters, backed by excellent after-sales service,” said Steve. 

“The biggest highlight for us is the number of customers who return to us and who refer us to others; that is always very satisfying. 95% of our business is from word of mouth and we’ve made loads of friends over the years who started out as customers. 

“We don’t just work with customers in Melksham, we’re happy to travel. We’ve gone as far as Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and Andover and also do a lot of the Ministry of Defence contracts. We had one referral in Bath Easton that was referred from a job we did in Keevil!” 

Nikki explained that a key ethos for the company is being honest with customers, building trust and relationships. They also raise funds for local charities such as the Lions Club and national charities such as Children with Cancer. 

Referrals and returning customers

“We have got a lot of knowledge that we can pass onto customers and that’s the biggest thing and why we get a lot of referrals and people coming back,” explains Nikki. “We advise customers and are on their side. We want them to be happy and want what’s best for them; we will never sell you something you don’t need or advise you to buy a more expensive flooring, especially if there’s a cheaper alternative. It’s a policy that has stood us in good stead for the past ten years.” 

Total Carpets are based at 35 Market Place, next to the former Lloyds Bank building with free car parking to the rear in Place Road. 

Steve said moving into the premises six years ago was a big highlight for the company, “We modernised everything, we got new signs and we’ve got the car park out the back too which is really helpful,” he says. 

As well as the shop in the town centre, they have a warehouse in Holt, where customers can go by appointment to see remnants and rolls available for purchase, “This is a very new thing and a really good way to sell some of the stock at a discount price, so we can get new stock in. 

Best products and competitive prices

“One of the main things we want to communicate, is that we deal with every main manufacturer and are always searching for the best products and most competitive prices.  

“And there are no grumbles if something goes wrong. Very occasionally, there are problems with the carpets; there’s nothing we can do about it if the carpet has a fault, but if it happens, we will put it right.”
