MELKSHAM Music and Drama has been nominated for three awards in this year’s National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) South West awards.
The three awards the group has been nominated for are: the Peter Wheeldon Memorial Trophy for A Company Crafted Production for their performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat performed at Melksham Assembly Hall; Best Small Musical Production for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat; and Best Small Pantomime for their performance of The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe, performed at the Rachel Fowler Centre.
The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 18th May in Plymouth with the group ‘excited’ to hear the outcome. “Producers and directors from both shows will be going down to Plymouth to see if they win anything and join in the celebrations,” says chairman, Geoff Mitcham.
This is not the first time they have been nominated for an award, as they scooped one for Act Your Age, a performance they showcased in 2016. They were also nominated for Flint Street Nativity in 2021.
Founded in 1969 as Melksham Comedy Club, the group wanted to entertain people in and around Melksham. Today, known as Melksham Music and Drama, the group continues to entertain with a pantomime in the early part of the year, followed by shows in May and September.
The group’s next production is an evening Disney Showcase, including songs and dances from classics such as ‘Beauty and Beast’ ‘Frozen’ and ‘Moana’ plus many more, on Friday 10th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May at the Rachel Fowler Centre.
In addition, they are hosting an afternoon dance party for children on the same theme, on Saturday 11th and Saturday 18th May. Children are invited to bring along their adults, to all sing and dance along with the cast (at least two adults are required for two or more children under 5 years).
Tickets for both the seated production and afternoon dance parties are available from Melksham Tourist Information Centre or Ticket Source.
