A RUNNER from Melksham put her best foot forward as she took on the London Marathon on Sunday 13th April.
Sarah Clifton was among around 37,000 people who ran the famous 26.2 mile race, which draws everyone from top athletes to enthusiastic amateurs.
She finished with a time of five hours and 55 minutes and 25 seconds
Sarah said, “I think the race went very well, especially considering the very warm weather. I feel tired, a little relieved and very pleased that I was able to do it. My target was anything under six hours, so I’m very pleased with my time. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to get anywhere near that time if I hadn’t been doing so much training. I am looking at applying for the Bath Half next year, and I would very much like to run the London Marathon again”
Sarah’s mother Hilary Clifton went to London to watch her daughter race and said, “We are all very proud of her achievement. We took another two of our children also and managed to see Sarah twice on the route and by that time, around 17 miles, the majority were walking – that’s still a long way to walk! The crowds were so supportive, it was such a tremendous atmosphere.”
Back in April 2012 Sarah Clifton was a front page item for the Melksham News when she received the highest award for St John Ambulance cadets from The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace.
The Melksham runner has raised over £2,000 for St John Ambulance thanks to the support from Lowbourne Osteopaths, St Augustine’s Catholic College, Gompels, Melksham Choral Society, Waitrose and the Cobblers Bench.
