On the 20th May, 32 members of Melksham’s French Twinning Association will be setting off to visit their friends in Avon, near Fontainbleau in France.
Some will be staying with new friends and some will stay with families they have known for over 30 years.
Badger Class, year 5, of River Mead Primary School have continued to exchange letters and messages to the primary school in Avon and their French teacher, Helen Simonsen, will be taking letters, photos, small gifts and English biscuits and delivering them in person from the children.
The visit will include, outings, a formal dinner and an official welcome at Avon Town Hall. There, the mayor and deputy mayor and officers of the Avon Twinning Association will be presented with a selection of local food and drink including a jar of Wiltshire honey, a pack of the Queen’s 90th birthday commemorative serviettes, copy of the Melksham Independent News and a bottle of the new ale from Melksham’s Kennet and Avon Brewery, ‘Crofton IPA’.
