MELKSHAM mixed martial arts star, Brad Scott, has won his first ever UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) bout in the UK in a fight screened live on BT Sport.
Brad who began his mixed martial arts career at Melksham’s Dragonslair, saw off the challenge of Dutch fighter Michael Kuiper at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester.
The Melksham star won as early as the first round – much to the delight of many fans who travelled to the north-west to see his debut UK fight. It took just 4 minutes 17 seconds for the bout to be won as Michael Kuiper struggled as Brad Scott pressed from the start before a missed trip from Michael Kuiper led to him falling to the floor. Brad Scott immediately seized the opportunity to latch on to the neck during the ensuing scramble and squeeze hard on a 10-finger guillotine choke from the standing position. Michael Kuiper couldn’t pull the neck free and was forced to tap with 43 seconds left in the opening round.
Brad Scott’s fight gripped Melksham and the world as many people took to social media sites to praise his performance. At one point he was trending around the world on Twitter with only Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him.
Following the fight with Michael Kuiper, Brad said, “I’d like to thank everyone who supported me! It felt so good to fight with home support and sent a shiver down my spine.”
He now has an overall record in UFC of nine wins and two losses with his record seven and one in his last eight fights.
